Why clean a terrace with a pressure washer

A terrace is constantly exposed to the weather, so moss, algae and a grey film build up, making the surface slippery and unattractive. A pressure washer quickly restores a terrace's appearance, but used incorrectly it can damage wood fibres or stone joints — which is why the right technique matters.

How to clean a wooden terrace without damaging it

• Use lower pressure and a greater distance from the surface than for stone
• Work in the direction of the wood grain, not across it
• Always test an inconspicuous spot before cleaning the whole terrace
• Avoid holding the jet on one spot for too long — it can raise wood fibres

Stone and concrete terraces

Stone and concrete terraces can handle higher pressure and the rotary dirt-blaster nozzle for a faster, more even result, similar to pavement cleaning. Use a narrower jet to remove dirt built up in the joints.
